***Original Release – Pursuit ends in traffic collision causing brush fire

Beaumont, CA – On May 29, 2019, at approximately 6:07 pm, the Beaumont Police Department received a 911 call from the 700 block of Cedar View Drive. A witness reported hearing a woman screaming “call 911”. The witness then saw a white Ford Mustang leaving the location at a high rate of speed. Officers responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the description and attempted to conduct an investigative stop on the vehicle. The driver failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit into Cherry Valley, an unincorporated area of Riverside County.

The driver and passenger proceeded to the 9000 block of Winesap, where they drove through a field and collided with a fence on private property in the area of Johnathan Avenue and Bridge Street. The collision sparked a brush fire, while the driver and the passenger both fled on foot. Officers from the Beaumont Police Department with the assistance of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Helicopter set up a perimeter and began to search for the subjects. CalFire provided assistance with the brush fire.

Officers located the female passenger hiding in an outbuilding on the property and detained her, but the male driver remains outstanding. This case is still under investigation. If anyone has any information about this case, please contact the On-Duty Watch Commander at 951-769-8500.
