Beaumont, CA – On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at approximately 12:28 am, while on routine patrol in the City, a Beaumont Police Officer received a stolen vehicle alert from the LoJack system. The vehicle was identified as a 2003 Chevy Tahoe that had been stolen in the City of the Ontario. Officers were in the area of Highland Springs Avenue and the I10 Freeway, when they spotted the vehicle exiting the off-ramp and heading North on Highland Springs Avenue. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Sundance Drive and Highland Springs Avenue but the vehicle failed to pull over.
Officers pursued the suspect vehicle through side streets within the Sundance neighborhood, when the driver drove through the front yard of a residence, hit a small tree and came to a stop in the area of Daisy Drive. Officers were able to quickly detain the suspect and take him into custody.
The driver, Gilbert Gonzalez Evans Jr., age 31, of 29 Palms was booked at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer and vandalism, as well as booked on an outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrant.
