On Thursday, February 16, 2017, at approximately 4:02pm, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Michigan Ave regarding a physical altercation between neighbors. Officers made contact with the reporting party who advised that his juvenile daughter had been struck by an item that was thrown into his yard by a neighbor. The male had attempted to confront his neighbors and was assaulted. During the altercation, the male was assaulted with a taser by the neighbor, identified as Ernest Gonzalez (47 years of age), from Beaumont.
Officers attempted to make contact with Ernest and his brother, Eddie Gonzalez (60 years of age), from Beaumont, who was identified as the second assailant. The pair refused to comply with officers commands to exit their residence. Officers made entry into the residence and arrested Eddie Gonzalez for Assault with intent to inflict Great Bodily Injury, felony resisting a police officer and violation of a court order (PC (245(a)(4), PC 69(a) and PC 166.4). When officers attempted to place Ernest Gonzalez under arrest he resisted and assaulted two of the arresting officers. Ernest was subsequently arrested for Assault with a Taser, Child Endangerment, Battery Against a Police Officer and Felony Resisting a Police Officer (PC 244.5(a), PC 273a(a), PC 243(c)(2) and 69(a) PC).
Ernest and Eddie’s sister, Elizabeth Gonzalez (56 years of age) from Beaumont, was also arrested for Assault with Intent to Inflict Great Bodily Injury (PC 245 (a)(4)) for attempting to assault the spouse of the reporting party with a cane during the physical altercation.
The two officers suffered minor injuries, but did not require medical attention. All three suspects were transported and booked at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
