Beaumont, CA: On February 7, 2018, at approximately 7:29pm, Beaumont Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Massachusetts Avenue regarding a request for assistance from an off duty police officer. The off-duty officer reported to dispatch that police assistance was needed in retrieving a stolen cell phone that had been tracked to a residence on Massachusetts. While officers were en-route to the location; a second reporting party called dispatch to report that a friend had been a victim of an assault by an off-duty police officer.
When officers arrived they located both the off-duty officer and victim together at the scene. Further investigation by officers determined that the off-duty officer had assaulted the victim, who was subsequently transported to an area hospital for examination of injuries. The off-duty officer was arrested for battery with serious injury, brandishing a firearm, and assault under the color of authority. The suspect, Alejandro Brown, 31 years of age, was booked at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. The off-duty officer was determined to be an employee with San Bernardino City Unified School District Police.
