Mail theft arrests

On Friday, February 3, 2017, the Beaumont Police Department took reports of ten community mailbox thefts that were located mostly in the South Sundance area. Of the ten thefts, two reporting parties gave officers a description of a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and shorts, and a dark colored vehicle that had left the area around the time of the thefts.

On Sunday, February 5, 2017, nine additional reports were taken of mailbox thefts that had occurred sometime over night, mostly in the neighborhood of Oak Valley Greens and Fore Seasons, located off of Oak Valley Parkway and Oak View Drive.  No suspect or vehicle descriptions were reported for these incidents.

On Monday, February 6, 2017, at approximiately 4:47 a.m., the Beaumont Police Department dispatch received a call regarding suspicious activity at a mailbox located in the 800 block of Windbound Avenue. Patrol officers responded to the location and located a vehicle with two subjects and initiated a traffic stop.  During the traffic stop, officers located a pry bar in the rear seat, as well as hundreds of items of mail belonging to residences throughout the City.

Officers arrested Jim Andrew Urban, 22 years of age, and Lorenzo Alejandro Brambila, 23 years of age both suspects are from San Bernardino. URBAN and BRAMBILA were booked at Smith Correctional Facility for Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools, Committing a Crime while out on Bail (PC 469(a), PC 466, PC 12022.1(a)(1)). Detectives are working with the United States Postal Inspectors and United States Attorney’s Office on investigation and prosecution of this case.
