On Thursday, June 28, 2018, about 5:04 PM, officers from the Beaumont Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop at Highland Springs Avenue and Sun Lakes Boulevard in the City of Banning.  The vehicle failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The vehicle pursuit continued through the City of Banning and concluded at Old Idyllwild Road and San Gorgonio Avenue.  The driver exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and an officer involved shooting occurred.  The suspect was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Beaumont Police Department requested the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conduct an independent investigation of the incident.  Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.  The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave per Beaumont Police Department’s policy.  The officer involved in this incident will not be identified at this time.
