Beaumont, CA - On August 10, 2021, at 11:09 p.m. the Beaumont Police Department received two calls reference a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of Massachusetts Avenue. Upon arrival two victims exited the residence, one of which was a 14-year-old juvenile who reported a family member inside the home had physically assaulted him.
As officers were helping the victims exit, a 48 year-old male approached the front door and pointed a shotgun at the officers. Officers backed away from the house and established a perimeter while the subject barricaded himself inside.
Since the subject was armed and had refused commands to exit the residence officers requested the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff Department Special Enforcement Bureau. Officers made announcements, attempted to negotiate with the subject, and eventually deployed tear gas into the residence. After a three hour stand-off the subject exited and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers served a search warrant at the residence and located four firearms and ammunition.
The 14 year-old victim complained of pain but was not taken to the hospital. No officers were injured and the subject was transported to Smith Correctional facility for Domestic Violence and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
