Beaumont,CA - On October 5, 2021, at approximately 7:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Sundance Drive in response to a male with a knife. Officers arrived and contacted a male and female who were residents of the home. The two reported another family member had threatened them with a knife. Officers located the subject at the door of the residence, but he refused officers commands to come out to speak with them. In an attempt to detain the subject, the officers entered the front door as he fled inside. Once inside the home officers located the subject in a back bedroom and began placing the subject under arrest. A large and aggressive pitbull began attacking one of the officers by biting him. The officer deployed his duty weapon and fired one round striking the dog.
At this time several of the family members began to threaten officers and further assistance was requested. Additional officers arrived, the scene was contained, and a 57 year-old male from Beaumont was arrested. The injured officer was transported to the hospital for treatment of the injuries received from the dog attack. Animal Control Officers responded and transported the injured dog to an area veterinary clinic where the dog later succumbed to its injury. No other injuries were reported.
The subject was transported to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and booked on charges of terrorist threats, brandishing a weapon and resisting arrest. This case is still under investigation.
